“Motoring” by Toy

Really looking forward to their debut LP, due late 2012. They’ve supported The Horrors plenty of times - similar sounds and atmospherics, but Toy probably have more pop sensibilities at this stage. Featuring some former members of Joe Lean & The Jing Jang Jong - but don’t hold that against them.

The remnants of final guitar parts - amps, pedals and buzzin leads. Spent a fair bit of time in this corner of the studio. Volume One is finished…..more info to follow this weekend!

‘Dark Star’ by Polica

Great track off a brilliant, brilliant album. Two drum kits, ethereal vocals, great mix of the electronic and organic. The LP ‘Give You The Ghost’ has just come out, and it’s a breath of fresh air. Imaginative and packed with great songs, beats, and smoke. A soundtrack to night-drives and head-movies. Go get on it.

If I had my eagle eyes
I’d swim inside and out the skies
Like love on the dark side of the sun
And if I had my dolphin wings
I’d fly away from everything
Like love on the dark side of the sun

Sooooo the record is pretty much finished…..a few cheeky little rub downs on the mixes but overall it’s in the net. Massive thanks to Ali Gavan (Sparrow, Prinzhorn Dance School) for his patience and general engineering magic pixie dust sprinkling - as well as pointing me in the direction of Arnie’s 100 best movie sayings on YouTube. Mostly the mixes have been minimal - the drums in particular sound roomy and alive. Yet to decide on the final tracks, but songs such as ‘New York (Parts One & Two)’, ‘Scream Light’, ‘Storm of Horses’ & ‘Cadaques’ are pretty certain to make the cut. The demos started off pretty metronomic in a way, so we loosened them up in the studio, played with the grooves and they feel really instant. I think the fun we had comes across, we just threw paint at the walls (any record with a song called ‘Shake Yer Rattlesnake’ has to be awesome).Looking forward to getting them out there and hopefully other people will enjoy them too - won’t be long!

Catch the wheel that breaks the butterfly
I cried the wave that filled the ocean wide
I tried to talk to God to no avail
Calling him in and out of nowhere
Said if you won’t save me
Please don’t waste my time

Your Explosion My Mind - EP NewsOK, so there’s about 18 tracks in various stages of completion…..influences range from Neu to The Horrors, Dylan to Tarantino, Buddy Holly to Terrence Mallick, the Drive soundtrack to The XX, and one instrumental sounds like a mental old japanese record by Takeshi Terauchi. All in all, it’s a fairly eclectic mix….The plan in April: finish some vocals and mix what at this stage I believe is gonna be L’Explosion: Volume One & Volume Two. I’m putting the records together in a way that the tracks melt together, brief melodies winding in and out between songs. We’ll see how it turns out! Might turn out like a mess, might just be a bit special. Put the ears through the gears and see where we wind up. I’m buzzin’ like a bee in a plug.Definitely happy with the writing and the melodies, just got to get the mixes right - pretty key if it’s all gonna hang together. On the look out for someone to collaborate with the artwork, and there are some remixes on the way as well.
